Climate crisis. Eroding social safety net. Colonialism. The rise of xenophobia and the far right. Just when we thought things couldn’t get worse, US broligarchs unleashed the threat of tariffs on the Canadian economy, leading to economic anxiety and corporate profiteering. Corporate-aligned governments of all stripes are profiting off this moment to promote further resource extraction, deregulation and deportations. What does a people-first response to this moment look like, and how can it cut through all the noise?
Nov 27 Webinar on Expiring Permits
We are now scheduling our next information session after our November 27 event. Fill in your information on this page and we will send you dates for the next workshop.
If you have an expired or expiring immigration permit (post-graduate, LMIA, employer-sponsored, spousal, closed, student, refugee or undocumented) or your hearing has been denied, sign up to get more information about your rights and immigration options.
You are not alone! By the end of 2025, more than 1.2 million work permits will expire. Already, many of us are struggling. Some are being fired, laid off or working for cash because of expired or expiring permits. We don’t get healthcare and we are separated from our families.
It shouldn’t be this way – all workers should be able to work with rights and protections. Together, we can win fairness. Non-migrant allies are welcome.

Start: Sunday, May 12, 2024•12:00 PM
Location: MWAC Office• 720 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5S 2T9 CA

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED: WRITE A LETTER TO PRIME MINISTER JUSTIN TRUDEAU TO ENSURE STATUS FOR ALL
Send a hand-written letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to demand permanent resident status for all undocumented people (called regularization) and migrant students and workers. Make sure to send us a photo, too!
How to send your letter:
- Take a photo and send it to us by December 11, 2023.
- You can send photos through email or WhatsApp
- Email to letters@migrantrights.ca
- Or send to an organizer via Whatsapp:
- Farm workers (English):
905-324-2480 - Farm workers (Spanish):
647-807-4722 - Fishery workers:
506-251-7467 - Care workers:
416-897-4388 - Current and Former International Students:
416-887-8315 - Undocumented workers:
416-500-0028
- Farm workers (English):
- Then, put it in an envelope and address it to the Office of the Prime Minister, 80 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A2. You don’t need to attach a stamp!
What should the letter say:
- Migrants: How will permanent resident status for all change your life?
- Ally or a supporter: How will permanent resident status for all make life better for everyone in Canada? Learn more here.
- Remind the Prime Minister that he promised regularization on December 16, 2021 – almost two years ago! Every day of delay means migrants are abused at work, denied healthcare, and separated from families.
Once you’ve sent the letter, organize or join a delivery in your city.
- On December 16-18, we will deliver all the letters to MPs across the country.
Speak up for fishery workers in crisis
Many migrant workers were forced to leave the country on August 26 for trying to organize for their rights. They’ve been in the country since April but have not been working and are starving. Read their story below and add your name to send a message.
