Starting in 2024, the Caribbean SAWP contract was changed so that farm workers no longer have a choice to file their own taxes or hire a professional. According to Section 7, by signing the contract, every worker automatically designates the liaison office to submit and file tax returns.
There are many issues with giving the liaison office responsibility for taxes, including significant delays, misplaced tax returns, lack of access to CRA account, and lack of accountability. This isn’t fair!
